Many of the environments use very toned down pallets, and in some cases, many of the rooms end up bleeding together a lot of the time(Torvus especially, despite being one of the more interesting locations), however, Echoes was definitely going for a war torn wasteland feel, as opposed to the seldom-touched wilderness utopia from Prime.

There are also some more substantial common criticisms such as the somewhat lacking environmental art design. However, when racing to the internet to see what people thought about the game, critic or otherwise, i began notice a large number of fans who still hold Prime in incredibly high regard, while looking at Echoes as some half-baked prime wannabe zelda clone.

Certainly not trying to bog down Prime, but Echoes simply nailed the moody atmosphere and distinct alien locales a lot better in my opinion, not to mention having a much more fully realized game map, with more thoughtful design and the inclusion of several shortcuts and economical save rooms(or rather, save hallways). So I've been recently playing through the Prime games again(mostly so i could play Prime 2, the one metroid game i'd never touched until recently), and after completing Prime and getting well into the 2nd half of Echoes, I was thoroughly impressed by it, especially in comparison to the first Prime.
