We agreed to tipping it two inches and throwing it in his Stealth Plus 8* head knocked down to the lowest setting. We got the Ventus Black TR 8X in for Player A to try out. With my Ventus Black 7X feeling like a stiff pool noodle, I couldn’t imagine anything named Ventus was going to work for Player A. So when Player A came to me asking for the Ventus Black TR 8X, I was hesitant. I like the feel of the Ventus Black 7X, I swing it at 115 mph and for me it doesn’t feel too stiff, which I like. My experience with the Fujikura Ventus collection has been solid. Cutting one inch off the tip of a regular flex shaft could potentially make it play like an extra stiff shaft. Roughly, chopping off half an inch will take the shaft to the next stiffest flex. For those that do not know, cutting a shaft from the head end makes it stiffer flex. We go through many shafts for Player A at different tipping lengths as well. LA Golf shafts are such an amazing product, but they did not knock off spin for him.

I know the simple solution would be to copy Bryson DeChambeau’s driver specs and put it in Player A’s hands, but trust me we have tried. At that speed it is very difficult to control spin.

Here at Fairway we have a regular customer, we’ll name him Player A, that can get his driver swing speed up to 140 mph. Whether or not someone needs it is another story 😉 Low spin, low launch… this is such a common shaft characteristic sought out for many players.
